How To Find A Good General Contractor In Meridian, Kuna, and Nampa

Are you looking for a good General Contractor in the Boise or surrounding areas? Kuma, Meridian, Nampa or other areas? Finding a good general contractor can be a daunting task, especially if you’re not sure where to start. But with a little bit of research and some due diligence, you can find a contractor who will get the job done right and on time. Here are some tips on how to find a general contractor near you, and what qualities you should look for in a good contractor.

  • Ask for referrals: One of the best ways to find a good contractor is to ask friends, family, and neighbors for recommendations. They may have recently had work done on their own homes and can provide valuable insights into the quality of work and customer service of different contractors.
  • Check for licenses and insurance: Before hiring a contractor, be sure to check that they have the proper licenses and insurance. A good contractor should have both a state contractor’s license and liability insurance to protect you in case of any accidents on the job.
  • Get multiple quotes and or meet with multiple GC’s: Once you’ve narrowed down your list of potential contractors, be sure to get quotes from at least three different contractors. This will give you a better idea of the cost of the project and allow you to compare the services and prices of different contractors.
  • Look for a contractor who is punctual and responsive: A good contractor should be punctual and responsive. They should be able to answer your calls and emails in a timely manner and show up on time for appointments. A great communicator and who cares about your time as well as his time, is a good sign you are on the right track.
  • Look for a contractor who is knowledgeable: A good contractor should have a good knowledge of the various trades and be able to advise you on the best materials and methods for your project. Ask lots of questions, like; “How to do feel about Solar?” or “What are your thoughts on radiant heating for a large home?”. Other questions such as; “Are you a member and involved in any local Building Contractor Associations”. How involved are they in continuous education in their field and helping their subcontractors do the same? The more you talk with them, the more you will be settled on whether its worth pursuing further or to keep looking. A good General Contractor will seek to earn your trust.
  • Look for a contractor who is flexible: A good contractor should be flexible and willing to work with you to create a custom plan that fits your needs and budget. This is key. I find that many General Contractor’s have a difficult time managing the changes of an ever evolving creative process of designing and building a home. While I sympathize with the difficulty in managing this part of the process, it’s important that changes are managed well and fairly to both parties.

Finding a good General Contractor takes time and research, but it’s well worth the effort. By following these suggestions, you’ll be able to find a contractor who is licensed, insured, punctual, responsive, knowledgeable, caring, and fair. The most important qualities to look for in a contractor are the ability to deliver quality work and the capacity to communicate well with the client.
