When I started Abstract RD+B, I saw the same pattern over and over: separate design firms would hand off beautiful drawings to builders who had no idea how to build them. Clients got caught in the middle, dealing with change orders, finger-pointing, and budget overruns.
That's why we brought design and construction under one roof. Our in-house design and construction team works together from concept to completion. When design sits next to construction, you get a plan that makes sense to build, with no coordination gaps between separate firms.

We specialize in full custom home design—from initial site evaluation through architectural drawings, permits, construction, and final walkthrough. Our in-house team handles everything: site planning, architectural design, structural engineering coordination, permitting, construction management, and quality control.
Most clients start with a planning conversation to discuss their vision, budget, timeline, and property. From there, we develop initial concepts, refine the design through collaboration, and transition directly into construction—no handoff to a separate builder, no coordination gaps.
Our Design-Build
Process
Discovery Call → Design (2 to 4 months) → Construction (8 to 14 months) → Keys in Hand.
We start with a planning conversation, virtual or in person, to discuss your vision, budget, timeline, and property. From there, design typically takes 2 to 4 months (depending on complexity and permit timelines), and construction runs 8 to 14 months. Total project timeline: about 11 to 18 months from first meeting to move-in. It varies greatly by the complexity of the project.
Throughout the process, you work with the same team—design and construction collaborate on every decision. Design changes happen before construction starts (when they're still cheap to implement). Once we break ground, we follow the plan with weekly updates and scheduled walkthroughs.

How long does custom home design take in Idaho?

Do we need land before design starts?

Can you work with an existing plan?
